The earliest immigrants from Okinawa, Japan, arrived in Argentina in 1908, whose centenary was celebrated on August 31, 2008
Many Okinawans chose other countries, such as the United States of America (Hawaii), Brazil and Peru.
Kiyotomi Uehara, fifth son to Seishichi Uehara, arrived in Argentina at the age of 19, at the request of his brother Kiyomasa.

Note: There are no photos of Kiyotomi Uehara´s parents in the family album as he took them back to his eldest sister in Okinawa. She was the only one of nine siblings who remained there. The photos, other possessions and his sister´s house were destroyed by fire in the war.
